This will be a live reading/live radio play format retelling of the story Rossum’s Universal Robots by Karel Čapek, rewritten and updated by Ian and Emily Bear and directed by Ian Bear and Catherine Bennett.

Showtimes are 7 PM Friday and Saturday
5 PM on 7/20
3 PM on 7/27

RUR tells the story of Harry Domin and his executive board at Rossum’s Universal Robots, set on an unclaimed island during an uncertain time, pumping out automated workers to replace ‘inefficient’ employees. We watch as he is visited by Helena Glory, an idealistic young woman with a goal of equality between man and robot. Over a ten year window, we watch the struggle to contain technology, it’s effect on the common man, and the debate over what makes something human – as well as the consequences of the boards actions and inactions.

The show does contain some mild profanity and loud noises/a simulated gunshot. Please be aware of this ahead of time.

Please note that the two Sunday night shows are at different times.

Also note that Thursday, July 17th is a FINAL DRESS REHEARSAL. Tickets to this are Pay What You Can with a $5 minimum in an effort to open theatre to everyone – do be aware that as it is a final rehearsal, there may be interruptions, miscues, or technical fixes being done during the show.

IN ADDITION – There will be a professionally recorded audio version of this radio play for sale as a fundraiser for the theatre. Please stay tuned for information.
